1. Initial discussion – slot pre-reservation

Experimental proposals are reviewed with the HiRadMat Facility Management. This first review is to verify the compatibility of the proposed experiments with the existing installation, and the possibility to provide the requested beam conditions.

2. ​​​Beam request

Experimental teams must first submit a Beam Request for conducting an experiment in the facility. This is done by filling the Beam Request Form that provides a minimal information for the experiment, the proposed setup and the beam parameters request and send it to the HiRadMat management. Usually, requests made before September 1st, will be considered for the schedule of the following year. Late requests will be scheduled to the earliest possible date. Following the evaluation of the beam requests, the individual experiments will be contacted specifically for further steps, e.g. the participation to the committees evaluating the scientific purpose and the safety aspects of the experiment.

The next call for beam time requests will be published in spring 2015 earliest (if you want to get on the mailing list, please request so by sending an e-mail to hiradmat.sps@cern.ch). The CERN accelerator complex resumed operation with beam also for HiRadMat in autumn 2014.

3. Experiment approval​​

The experimental proposal will be reviewed by the HiRadMat Scientific Board. The board evaluates the scientific value of the proposal, and the technical feasibility of the experiment. Upon positive recommendation the experiment is reserved a slot to the yearly schedule, which will be finally approved by the HiRadMat Technical Board following:

  • ​a safety review by the safety officials (RP and general safety), including dismantlng and waste handling. For this the experiment must provide a complete Safety File.
  • a beam operations review by the accelerator experts. For this the experiment must provide a Pulse List document.
  • a technical review by the HiRadMat technical team. For this a detailed Technical Folder must be provided.

​Successful outcome of all the three reviews leads to the final approval of the experiment, and the confirmation of the beam slot in the schedule.

4. Facility acknowledgement

All publications in the HiRadMat frame work shall mention one of the following two statements:
